2026 Icelandic Music Awards Nominees Announced

Nominations have been revealed for the 2026 Icelandic Music Awards, with the ceremony scheduled for 18 March at Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre in Reykjavík. As reported by RÚV, the event will take place in the Silfurberg hall and will be broadcast live. Annual music honours Awards will recognise achievements across Icelandic music in categories including albums, songs, compositions, performances, music videos, lyric writing and recording management. Several internationally recognised Icelandic artists are among those nominated in the performer categories. They include Björk Guðmundsdóttir, Laufey and pianist Víkingur Heiðar Ólafsson, who appear in different performer of the year categories covering pop, jazz, classical and other genres. Björk. Credit: Santiago Felipe A jury of four members, supported by around 30 people working in Icelandic music, reviewed recordings and projects released over the past year before finalising the nominations. In addition to the competitive categories, organisers will present an honorary prize and an award recognising the “Brightest Hope” in Icelandic music. The awards highlight a wide range of musical activity across the country, from classical composition to pop and hip hop releases. Many of the nominated artists are also familiar to international audiences through concerts and recordings, and have been featured in coverage of the country’s music scene, including guides to Iceland’s vibrant music culture.
