Travellers in northern parts of Iceland are being advised to check road conditions before setting out, as a new weather system approaches the country. According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office, snow or sleet has already been reported in some northern areas this morning. The conditions can make travel more challenging, particularly on mountain routes. However, a low-pressure system is forecast to move into the Greenland Sea later on Saturday. Its effects are expected to reach Iceland in the evening, bringing stronger winds and precipitation. Yellow weather warnings have been issued for North Iceland, the Westfjords and the Breiðafjörður area overnight and into early Sunday. Winds in the north-west could reach 15–23 metres per second, with sleet or snow in places and potentially hazardous driving conditions.
