An agreement has been finalised for a major outdoor concert by indie rock collective Kaleo at Þingvellir National Park, with organisers expecting a crowd of up to 20,000 people. The deal was signed between the park’s governing committee and the band’s representatives, confirming the event will take place on 20 June. What's the Story? Sigurður Helgi Pálmason, chair of the Þingvellir Committee, said organisers would take a thorough approach to preparations. He confirmed a dedicated safety council will be established, led by the local police chief, to oversee security and logistics for the large-scale gathering. The committee only approved the concert after reviewing a detailed operational plan and considering feedback from relevant stakeholders. From Parliament to Iceland's Biggest Music Venue The performance is expected to follow a similar format to Kaleo’s previous outdoor show at Vaglaskógur last summer, which drew close to 10,000 attendees. Organiser Jakob Frímann Magnússon indicated earlier this year that the Þingvellir concert would build on that model, albeit on a significantly larger scale. Þingvellir is a site of historical and cultural importance in Iceland. It gave birth and hosted Alþing (Althing), the country’s parliament from the 10th to 18th centuries. The national park is likely to see one of its biggest music events to date if attendance meets expectations.
