Icelandair Cancels US Flights Amid Storm Disruption

Severe weather in the United States has led to the cancellation of several Icelandair flights to the country, leaving around 1,700 passengers with disrupted travel plans. As reported by RÚV, the airline confirmed that two flights to New York were cancelled yesterday. Transatlantic services affected Guðni Sigurðsson, the airline’s information officer, said efforts are under way to minimise further disruption. “The company plans to add flights tomorrow,” Guðni said, noting that confirmation from the United States is still awaited. He added that the airline remains optimistic that the situation will stabilise and that no further cancellations will be required if weather conditions improve. Transatlantic routes are particularly vulnerable to extreme weather events, which can affect aircraft positioning and airport capacity. Icelandair has not indicated whether other destinations may be impacted. Passengers are advised to monitor updates from the airline directly.
