2026-02-15 - 17:58

Forecasters in Iceland are urging caution as strong winds are set to affect eastern parts of the country until Tuesday. The Icelandic Meteorological Office says blustery conditions are expected east of Öræfi and across the Eastfjords. What's the Story? The Icelandic Meteorological Office warns of strong winds in eastern Iceland until Tuesday. Gusts are expected east of Öræfi and in the East Fjords. Wind speeds could reach 13–18 metres per second, with stronger gusts at times. Drivers, especially those in high-sided vehicles, should take extra care. Although no official alert has been activated under the office’s colour-coded warning system, a meteorologist highlighted the risk in a notice published on its website. Wind speeds are predicted to range between 13 and 18 metres per second, with significantly stronger gusts possible at times. Sudden bursts of wind could create hazardous travelling conditions, particularly on exposed roads. Drivers are being advised to remain vigilant, especially those operating high-sided vehicles or cars that are more vulnerable to crosswinds. Even without a formal warning in place, forecasters say the strength and variability of the gusts mean road users should take extra care. The unsettled weather is expected to persist in the region through to Tuesday, with conditions monitored closely by meteorologists.
