Staring out of this office window into the pitch-black sky, we can’t help but count down the hours until this week ends and we start enjoying the holidays. Nevertheless, we have jobs to do today, and ours is to tell you what’s happening.
As the upcoming holiday week approaches, most places in Reykjavík will adjust their hours. If you plan on visiting the pool, grocery shopping at Krónan, Bónus, or Hagkaup, or purchasing alcohol at Vínbúðin, here are their respective holiday opening hours. For individual spots like bars, record stores, or shops, we recommend checking out their social media (or, as the Grapevine’s publisher reminds us, you can just give them a call).
Now that that’s sorted!
Tonight, celebrated craft bar Skúli celebrates 11 years of operation, starting at 17:00 and going on into the night. There’s a “smol but kúl” Christmas market at Bíó Paradís from 16:00 to 20:00 (and a limited sale continuing until 22:00), with work for sale from some of the city’s most exciting artists (who offer some unique last-minute gifts). After that, you can hop into a theatre for National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, which is this week’s party screening at 21:00. At 19:00, Live @ Smekkleysa brings together Gunnar Gunnsteinsson, Ásthildur Ákadóttir & Brynjar Daðason, and Bridget Ferrill & Áslaug Magnúsdóttir for a night of delicate electronic, piano, field recordings, and experimentation. Kabarett hosts Ekkert, The Gender Benders, and Ólöf Rún for a night of fun that starts at 20:00. Metal fest Andkristni celebrates 25 years of their annual Antichristian festival, taking over Iðnó through Saturday night.
Most holiday exhibitions will run just until Tuesday, so make sure you check them out before they’re gone! Some of our favourites have been at Ásmundarsalur, BERG Contemporary, Herma, H,A,K,K, and Gallery Port (at their main location and in Rammagerðin).
