Rain, Sleet and Strong Winds Forecast Across Iceland

A mix of rain, sleet and snow is forecast across much of Iceland today, as reported by RÚV, with stronger winds developing later in the day. According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office, most areas will experience precipitation, although conditions in the northeast are expected to remain largely dry until evening. Later in the day, winds are forecast to shift to the south-west, bringing further showers or sleet to several regions. Looking ahead, similar conditions are expected tomorrow with south-westerly winds of 10–18 metres per second and scattered precipitation. Forecasters say winds may ease later in the afternoon, although snowfall is expected in the Westfjords by evening as north-easterly winds increase. A stronger northerly storm system is forecast to move into the north-west of the country between Wednesday and Friday. Road conditions remain difficult in several areas. Snow, ice and icy patches have been reported on major routes in the southwest, west, north and east of Iceland. Mountain roads, including Hellisheiði and Mosfellsheiði, have icy sections.
