A yellow weather warning has been issued across eastern parts of Iceland as strong winds and snowfall disrupt travel and daily life. The alert covers areas including Eastfjords as well as the southeast of the country, and remains in force until midday. Congestion has already been reported between Vogar and Keflavík Airport, as well as along the road to Grindavík. As reported by RÚV, several key routes have been shut due to severe weather. A section of the Route 1 between between Höfn and Djúpivogur has been closed, alongside mountain roads including Fjarðarheiði and Fagradalur. Other routes, such as Öxl and Breiðdalsheiði, are currently impassable. Forecasters say winds are expected to ease later today, shifting westerly by the afternoon. However, further severe weather is predicted tomorrow, with strong easterly winds and snowfall spreading from the south, where rain or sleet may develop near the coast.
