Orange warnings are in place this morning for the capital area, South Iceland, Faxaflói and the central highlands, while yellow warnings apply elsewhere. “It will be windy tonight and it will start snowing late tonight in the south and west of the country and early tomorrow we will have southeasterly winds of fifteen to twenty-eight meters per second in the south and west of the country with snowfall, quite heavy snowfall,” said Marcel De Vries. “This also brings with it a gale force wind, which means we have orange warnings in South Iceland, the capital area and Faxaflói.” Authorities warn there will be no safe travel conditions in southern and western regions until around midday, with disruption expected on roads and public transport. Icelandair has not announced cancellations, while Isavia is due to assess operations with airlines. The Civil Protection Committee of the Capital Region has met to review preparedness. “The only thing that matters today is to monitor warnings from the Icelandic Meteorological Office and also information from the operations command, if they come, and then from civil protection and follow them,” said Þóra Kristín Ásgeirsdóttir.
