According to the Icelandic Met Office, Iceland’s south-west will experience strong easterly winds today. Forecasters say conditions will remain largely dry with bright spells, although winds will steadily increase, particularly in eastern areas. Some coastal and southern districts may experience isolated gales as the system moves closer. What's the Story? A deep low-pressure system is moving north-east. It is bringing stronger easterly winds and isolated gales in the east and south. Today will be mostly dry and bright. However, it will remain cold, with some southern areas close to freezing. Light sleet or snow is expected tomorrow in the south. Temperatures will range between 0°C and 6°C. Tourists watch boats in Reykjavík marina during extreme weather. Photo: Golli. Iceland Review. Despite the sunshine, temperatures are expected to stay low. Overnight readings fell to between -10°C and -15°C, and the air mass remains cold. In parts of the east, skies will be partly cloudy this afternoon, with brisk winds making it feel colder. Weather officials have noted significant daily temperature swings, with some southern locations near heathland areas seeing daytime highs edging close to freezing. Looking ahead to tomorrow, a further drop in temperatures is forecast, with highs between 0°C and 6°C. Light sleet or snowfall is possible in southern districts, potentially leading to icy patches in places. Motorists are advised to remain cautious, particularly in areas exposed to stronger winds or wintry showers.
