A new opinion poll indicates that more people in Iceland support prioritising current transport plans than oppose them. As reported by RÚV, views vary significantly by region, with the strongest support in the capital area, where just under half of respondents expressed approval. What's the Story? 44.3% in favour and 33.6% opposed to prioritising the transport plan, according to a poll by Maskína Highest support in the capital area; higher opposition in the West, Westfjords, South and Reykjanes Peninsula Strongest opposition in East Iceland, with 54.7% against and 26.9% in favour; survey based on 1,002 respondents between 25 February and 3 March Alþingi parliament building in Reykjavik. Regional divide evident According to a survey conducted by Maskína, 44.3% of respondents said they support prioritising the current transport plan, while 33.6% were opposed and 24.2% selected a neutral position. In northern regions, more people were also in favour than against. However, attitudes were more divided elsewhere, with slightly higher opposition recorded in the West, the Westfjords, the South and the Reykjanes Peninsula. The highest level of opposition was recorded in East Iceland. There, 54.7% said they opposed the prioritisation, compared with 26.9% who supported it. The region has previously expected progress on the Fjarðaheiðar Tunnel, which was included in an earlier transport plan approved by the Alþingi. The poll was conducted online through Maskína’s National Portal, which draws participants from a sample selected via the National Registry. A total of 1,002 respondents took part between 25 February and 3 March.
