Spring is here. Even if the weather takes a couple more months to catch up, the local events calendar is already in full bloom. This week brings a kaleidoscope of activities, from fitness sessions and rare film screenings to live gigs, poetry workshops and outdoor tours. For those who prefer handicrafts, there’s even a knitting session paired with a language exchange. Whatever you choose, you really can’t go wrong. Monday, 2 March Calisthenics POP-UP, a practice at Primal Iceland, 18.40 How are your calisthenics skills? For those who may not be familiar with the concept, it is a form of strength training that relies on bodyweight as resistance to perform full-body exercises. At Primal Iceland, everyone is welcome to try simple yet challenging movements designed to improve body awareness and control — without weights or complicated equipment. No previous experience is required; just turn up and enjoy the class. More information here. Tuesday, 3 March Iceland on the Prairies, a film screening at the National Museum of Iceland, 12.00 On Tuesdays, the National Museum hosts a variety of events, such as movie film screenings, guided tours and lectures. This week, the visitors will have a chance to see Iceland on the Prairies, a film exploring the life of Icelanders in the Western world in the middle of the last century. Taken from the collection of the Icelandic Film Archives, this work is a rare gem providing insight into the traditions and culture from the insider’s perspective. Wednesday, 4 March Ritrými í Reykajvík / Reykjavík in Writing, a workshop at Mengi, 17.00 Designed for writers, poets, specifically those creating works in a foreign language, this workshop will consist of six meetings stretching from March to May 2026. The first session, hosted by Ewa Marcinek, explores multilingual practice and what it means to live and write between languages. The workshop will be in English, with optional support in Polish and basic Icelandic. More information here. Thursday, 5 March Ásgeir, a series of shows in Iceland, 21.00 Ásgeir (Ásgeir Trausti Einarsson) is set to embark on a short local tour, beginning this Thursday at Hljómahöll in Reykjanesbær. The artist has released six albums, most of them through the prestigious One Little Independent Records. For anyone visiting Iceland during his home tour, this offers a rare opportunity to see Ásgeir in his natural habitat, so to speak. Further performances will take place in Reykjavík, Hveragerði, Búðardalur, Flateyri and Rifi. More information and tickets here. Friday, 6 March Spacestation and LiteFun, a concert at Stúdentakjallarinn, 21.00 Stúdentakjallarinn is a cosy basement bar on the premises of the University of Iceland. The venue also occasionally hosts concerts and film screenings. The first show this spring will feature Spacestation and LiteFun. The former has been making waves since the release of their album Reykjavík Syndrome paying homage to Stone Roses and The Velvet Underground. More about the event here. Saturday, 7 March Snæfellsnes. Snæfellsnes Peninsula Small Group Day Tour, 8.00 The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is known for its dramatic landscapes that appeared in several Hollywood films (Game of Thrones, Captain America, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty). The ten-hour tour to the most captivating spots of this region which is believed to be extremely volcanically active 15 to 7 million years ago. Book your tour on Troll.is. Sunday, 8 March Lopi og Orð, a knitting session at the Reykjavík City Library, 15.00 Lopi og orð is a gathering for anyone who enjoys handcrafts such as knitting, crochet or embroidery and has a basic knowledge of Icelandic. The aim of the event is to create a space where learners of Icelandic can practise their skills while connecting with Icelandic culture in a relaxed, cosy setting.
