2026-03-29 - 17:02
The upcoming week is all about Easter. The holidays are approaching, and everyone may be wondering how to spend them with both purpose and enjoyment. Beginning with a writing community hangout, these seven days unfold with a range of exciting music events, from neoclassical interpretations of Beethoven to jazz and psychedelic stoner sounds. And if you’d prefer to be closer to nature, there’s something special for you on Easter Sunday. Monday, 30 March Come For Coffee: Writing Community Hangout, a workshop at Mengi, 18.00 A great event for anyone who writes poetry or enjoys reading contemporary verse. Local poetry groups and publishers Ritrými í Reykjavík, Ós Pressan and RVK Poetics have joined forces to host an event at Mengi. Alongside the launch of the multilingual library, the programme includes a presentation by Tristan Zand, an experimental narrator and mixed-media artist, and a member of Ritrými. Tuesday, 31 March Exhibition H.f. Radio, Loftskeytastöðin, 14.00 This year marks 100 years since Iceland hosted its first formal radio broadcast at Loftskeytastöðin in Reykjavík on 18 March 1926, marking the beginning of a new era in Icelandic media history. The exhibition presented in situ is a journey through the early years of radio in Iceland, before the establishment of Ríkisútvarpið, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service. Wednesday, 1 April Víkingur Ólafsson, a concert at Eldborg, Harpa, 21.00 Owing to his international success, composer and pianist Víkingur Ólafsson rarely performs in Iceland. These two concerts at Harpa offer a rare opportunity to experience the artist in his natural setting. On this occasion, Ólafsson will perform Beethoven’s late masterpiece, the Sonata in E major, Op. 109, alongside earlier works, as well as pieces by Bach and Schubert. Thursday, 2 April Óskar Guðjónsson and Ómar Guðjónsson, a concert at Hotel Holt, 19.00 Óskar and Ómar Guðjónsson are among the most compelling figures on the Icelandic music scene. Performing both solo and as part of their adventurous jazz-rock ensemble ADHD, they have developed a sound that is unmistakably their own. At Hotel Holt, the brothers will be joined by bassist Nico Moreaux to present bold interpretations of classic jazz standards. More information about the event can be found here. Friday, 3 April Cushing (US), Lynda Mandolyn and Gvari & Andri, a concert at LEMMY, 21.00 Cushing is a three-piece noise rock project from Portland. At Lemmy, the collective will be joined by fellow American songwriter Lynda Mandolyn, as well as the Reykjavík-based duo Gvari & Andri Eyfjörð, who will perform a drum session and a DJ set. More information about the event can be found here. Saturday, 4 April The Vintage Caravan, a concert at IÐNÓ, 22.00 Balancing the heavier edges of stoner rock with smooth psychedelia, The Vintage Caravan is one of Iceland’s long-standing bands, boasting a devoted international cult following. The band’s latest album, Portals, was released via Napalm Records last year. Imagine a supergroup where Led Zeppelin joins forces with Cream — that comes close to capturing The Vintage Caravan’s sound. Sunday, 5 April Katla Ice Cave. Photo: Troll.is.
